Shouldn't the lens stabilizer motor humming noise go silent after I flip stabilizer switch to OFF?

Camera: EOS R8
Lens: RF24–105mm F4-7.1 IS STM

When the camera is on, if I put my ear to the lens, I can hear the stabilizer motor humming. If I flip the stabilizer switch to OFF, I expect to hear it go silent, but it's still humming. Why?

(the stabilizer effect does turn off, tested by shooting videos)

(my old EF lens does go silent immediately after flipping the switch, tested on the same camera body, using the RF mount adapter ring)

Thanks Newton. I have an RF 50mm F1.8 STM (no IS) that is dead silent. I always thought it's because there's no IS.

(btw, the F1.8 aperture is already super large for me, often too large that my boke would look bogus on some shots... I can't believe your 50mm F1.2L is 10 time more expensive than my 50mm F1.8, so crazy!)

You are welcome, blouse! And thanks for reporting on the STM, I was curious if the RF stepper motors hummed.

As for the RF 50mm f/1.2 being expensive, you pay a premium for light, LOL, and if you ever held/used one you would really see why they are premium lenses. F/1.2 isn't for everyone and can be challenging, but I love mine and shoot quite a bit in low light.
