I'm in the process of customizing my camera (EOS R7) for birding, and one suggestion I saw in a video was to customize use the Customization>Customize Dials. The suggestion was to use the Main Dial to Tv, Quick Control Dial to Av, and lens Control Ring to ISO. However, when I do those settings, on the RF-S 18-150 lens that came matched to the camera, the lens control ring doesn't modify the ISO. It does properly focus in manual focus mode.
When I put my 100-400 RF 100-400 lens on, the Control Ring does adjust the ISO.
In the18-150 lens manual, it does say "This can only used as a focusing ring on cameras that do not support switching*", and below, lists EOS R, RP, Ra,R5,R6.
I just want to confirm my suspicion that the R7 is/should be in that list as well, that the control ring ONLY functions for focusing on it.
Solved! Go to Solution.

I only had the R7 for a few months, but IIRC for lenses that do not have a dedicated control ring or switch on lens, you have to set it in camera. Yes, you have to assign a function to the ring as you've done, but you also have to go to the AF menu and tell the camera how to use the focus ring.
My manual is old so I'm not sure which page current firmware has the setting. Go to the AF settings (magenta) and look for "Focus/control ring", it should be the last tab. You need to set that to "Control".

Have you checked the custom programming setting when using the lens. It might be disabled, by default.
The lens appears to lack any control buttons, not even an AF/MF switch. My best guess is that all lens settings are controlled by the camera, so except for zoom.

That was it. On the AF 6 menu, had to set it to Control as suggested. Looking at it, I guess that the 100-400 lens worked with just the Customize as it has three rings where the 18-150 only has 2 rings so you have to tell it which way to function.
thanks.

That's great! I guess my manual is up to date, it showed AF 6 as well 🙂
