RF 24-240mm won't focus at 50 feet or beyond

I’m new to Canon…been shooting Nikon since the 1970’s.  Just received my new USA warranty RP body and a refurbished RF24-240mm lens…from Canon USA.  I’ve reset everything back to factory settings…on A setting the camera/lens will focus and take an image at 10 feet, and at 20 foot distance, but will not focus at 50 feet or on the mountains across the valley…does not matter what the zoom setting on the lens is….so I can’t take an image at those distances (not in focus).  What am I doing wrong?

Tims32ford,

As a process of elimination, do you have another lens you can try?

If your focus in OK on a different lens, then you know it's not the camera.

Greetings,

Do you have the AF / Control switch on the lens set to AF?

I don’t (all Nikon stuff)…but my brother-in-law does…will try to get together with him in a couple of days. (he’s BUSY…anesthesiologist). Will post what happens.

Thanks for the suggestion…but it is set to AF.  I’m betting it’s not the lens…direct from Canon USA…refurbished by them.

Hey Steve…after spending about 30 min with Canon technical support, Ben (support tech), he decide the problem was the refurbished (by Canon, no less) lens.  Turns out he was right.  Located a video shop here in Montana that had a RF mount lens…when it was mounted on the body, the AF issue went away.  Your suggestion to try another lens was correct.

Exact same issue here. Autofocus up to about 10-15 feet, nothing beyond that. This is going back to Canon.
