RF 200-800 Lens Design Issue - Filter can't be used with hood

A friend of mine was lucky enough to have received her Canon RF 200-800mm lens that she had ordered in Nov. 2023.  She has encountered an issue with the lens design.   The new lens does not appear to allow use of a filter while the lens hood is in place.  She and her camera shop have tried a number of different brands of filters, but none appear to allow the lens hood to be mounted while a filter is attached.  This seems to be a rather inexcusable design flaw on Canon's part.  When Canon technical support was contacted, no one appeared to know anything about the issue.  With the exception of this problem, she loves her new lens.  Has anyone else encountered this issue with this lens?

The Hoya EVO, KF Concepts titanium and B&W filters all work.  I'm sure Canon's own filter would also work.

The Pro Master will not work.

I'm using the KF Concepts Titanium.  It worked perfectly.

I have seen and had other lenses whose hoods do not fit if the filter's outer diameter is larger than the front of the lens that the filter screws onto. Some filter makers go overboard on rim thickness.

Thank you very much! I try to support my local camera shop, but they only carry the Pro Master in that size. I will order one of those you recommend.

Hi MadJack70,

I have the RF200-800mm F6.3-9 IS USM lens, and I have a HOYA 95mm EVO Antistatic UV (0) Slim camera filter on it.  I have no trouble whatsoever using the ET-101 lens hood that came with the RF200-800mm lens and have not had any problems putting on and taking off the lens cap on top of the HOYA filter while the lens hood is on.   Have not had any problems using the ET-101 lens hood with the HOYA filter.  I would get the HOYA filter that I have on, from B&H camera store online or Amazon, or one of the ones Rick (shadowsports) recommended.

Cheers,
Joe
