RF 100mm f/2.8mm Macro L Lens / SA Ring Rubbing Sound

Hello,

I just bought a new RF 100mm Macro L Lens and had a play with SA Ring.

I noticed that the ring is making that inconsistent faint rubbing sound when turning. I never came across such sound with my other lenses but this is the only one shock has the SA ring. Is that normal? Could anyone one who has that lens check that out please? I've attached the video...

Hello, pasmigielski!

The SA ring on my RF 100mm L sounds like that, but I have to put my ear really close to hear it. Sounds like plastic on plastic to me but it could be whatever elements are being manipulated to cause aberration, if that makes sense 🤔

I've had this lens for 3+ years and never noticed it until I checked at your request. I would guess that it is normal.

Thank you for your response Newton.

Your description certainly aligns with a subtle plastic-on-plastic rubbing sound. I trust this is an intentional design feature and will not compromise the longevity of the lens. I am curious to know if other users have noticed a similar sound. Having many RF lenses in my collection, this is the first instance where I have detected such friction / rubbing noise when operating the control ring. Notably, this lens is unique as it features the SA control ring, making direct comparisons challenging.

I greatly appreciate your time in examining your own copy of the lens to provide insight.
Your feedback is invaluable.

Kind regards,
Pawel
