Just purchased a copy of the EF 24-70mm f/2.8 II USM at Samy's Camera In San Francisco and only the serial number was on the body with no date code on the back. I even checked their demo lens and it was the same.
I asked them why and they told me that Canon doesn't always print the date code in back of their lenses.
Just wondering is this true? Can someone out there give me a better answer.
The lens have no issues and performs great. as advertised.

Yours must be a counterfeit copy....
He he just kidding. Relax. Mine doesn't have the date code either. No worries. You can tell the manf. date from the "new" 10-digit serial number for this lens.
