Does Canon make Extender work with RF adaptor + 100-400L USM IS II lens with EOS R.
Can anyone share experiences of this set up.
Thank you.

Is the adapter you are referring to the RF to EF and the lens an EF 100-400mm II? I suspect so, so yes, both the EF 1.4X III and EF 2X III will work on the R series using the RF to EF adapter and the EF 100-400mmL II.

Canon has the RF 1.4x and RF 2x. I would guess that they are compatible with all L series telephoto lenses for the RF mount.

Thanks for the information. Does this combination decrease the AF capability if the lens.
Wish you a very happy new year.

I have not used this combo on the R, but have used it on the R5 and R6. I see a drop-off in AF speed when light isn't optimal, but all AF points work, unlike some DSLR cameras that I occasionally use it on. It's a bit better on the R6. Just keep in mind that the EF 1.4X extender will reduce your light by 1 full stop at 400mm (from f/5.6 to f/8). To put that in perspective, you will get half the light you were getting at f/5.6.
I did not like this combo on the R5 and R6 for various reasons that may not effect you, like sluggish AF in lower light and a bit of IQ loss, but we all have our preferences. I opted for the RF 100-500mm L. I bought the EF 1.4X III extender several years ago, and honestly, I rarely use it. It has came in handy and I don't regret buying it, but It's something I can easily do without. I just try to get closer when using the EF 100-400mmL II on one of my DSLR's 🙂
Happy New year to you as well!

Thank you for the information and for sharing the experience.
Now, if I use aspect ratio to 1.6 from full frame on EOS R, what are the effects will be on still photos in Raw mode.

It will reduce the the image size from 30MP down to 12MP so you will loose some resolution, particularly when cropping. Now, when shooting 4k video, this isn't a concern because, IIRC, when shooting 4K the camera automatically crops. All of the R series do this. Our R6 produces an 8MP Raw when in crop mode or an EF-S lens is attached. When a Canon EF-S lens is attached, it will do it automatically, but some other brands aren't recognized as being EF-S and the shot will have dark edges, some worse than others.Newton

I'm using the 100-400L USM IS II, the Extender 1.4X III, and the EF-RF Control Ring Adapter on my R5, which gives an equivalent 140-560mm zoom range. Of course the added lengths of the extender and adapter add to the overall length, but it's definitely a usable combination.
I'm presuming you already have the 100-400L IS II, as I did, or have it available to you at a very good price, otherwise you may want to consider Canon's new RF mount 100-500L USM IS lens.

A better way to go, IMHO, too. 😁

What do you mean, jpg vs Raw? If so no difference. However, IMHO, you should always shoot Raw file format.
