The lens auto-focuses just fine using the center point to focus and the center of the photo is sharp. The pictures get fuzzier as you get away from the center, even though the image subject is the same distance. Just to add oddness, I am using a 6D II and when I use live view, the images are clear to the edges. Any suggestions on what might be wrong with the lens?

Normally any resolution tests you will see are done against a flat surface in a way similar to what I described.
Considering your comment about how you sourced the lens I would get it checked in any case, and Canon can clean it if required.

You can initiate a service request with Canon. They will evaluate the lens and give you a quote. When functioning correctly it is a very sharp lens.

EOS 6D Mark II uses the 45-point AF sensor from the EOS 80D, but obviously on a full frame camera it is much more concentrated the central part of the frame than on a crop camera.
The outer AF points are only sensitive to either horizontal or vertical lines of contrast. The central point is sensitive to both horizontal and vertical lines of contrast. Depending on the subject this can have an impact on AF accuracy
When you activate live view the image sensor is used to determine AF. This is because with the mirror raised for live view then the 45-point AF sensor cannot be used. Live view AF is slower but actually more accurate since it uses the image and adjusts AF to maximise contrast. Furthermore as the same sensor is used to capture the image and focus then in live view there is no potential discrepancy between what the AF sensor focuses on and what the image sensor captures.

"They will evaluate the lens and give you a quote."
At this point I concur with JRF. Call Canon 1 (800) 652-2666 or set up a C&C for your lens. Any further testing by you is probably a waste of time at this point. Nobody here can tell you what it will cost except Canon itself.
