But what would you use it for?  That tells you what focal length to get.

You already have the 17-40 range covered. That can be used for your walk around lens though it stops a little short for that at 40mm. I use a 35mm prime as my walk around and I zoom with my feet so I think you can too.

For or a standard telephoto the best one is the EF 70-200mm L f/2.8 IS Mk 2.  In the US it sells between $1,800.00 and $2,300.00.  It is a truly fantastic lens. Sharp. Great colors. Great in low light. Great bokeh. And that focal range is very usable on a full frame camera. Not often is it too long to be useful.

If you need a longer telephoto let us know and folks can suggest longer lenses but the good ones get expensive and you may also lose the nice f/2.8 aperture if you get a longer telephoto. Unless you really spend a lot on a 300mm or 400mm f/2.8.

Canon 5d mk 4, Canon 6D, EF 70-200mm L f/2.8 IS mk2; EF 16-35 f/2.8 L mk. III; Sigma 35mm f/1.4 "Art" EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro; EF 85mm f/1.8; EF 1.4x extender mk. 3; EF 24-105 f/4 L; EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS; 3x Phottix Mitros+ speedlites

Why do so many people say "FER-tographer"? Do they take "fertographs"?

Hi Janabi,

Nice shots.

I think you mean to say you want a telephoto lens, not a zoom lens. Lots of folks use those two words interchangeably but telephoto means a long focal length while technically a zoom lens is any lens, like your 17-40 even, which allows you to use a range of different focal lengths.

A telephoto can be a zoom lens (100-400mm, 70-200mm, etc.) but a telephoto can also be a fixed focal length prime (300mm, 400mm, etc.) just so long as it is a long focal length.
