55-200mm lens focus ring stopped focusing

DanewmoonFilmz

I have a canon m50 with 55-200mm lense and a 22mm.

Have been using it but unfortunately the focus ring of 200mm stopped focusing in Af and Mf but the 22mm is fine.

Where could be the problem

Note all EF-M lenses are focus by wire. Meaning the lens uses the AF motor for MF too. Does the lens display F/00 or F/--.

Lenses: EF Trinity, EF 50mm F/1.8 STM, EF 70-210mm F/4 (Brought out of Retirement) & EF 85mm F/1.8 USM
Speedlites: 470EX-AI & 600EX II-RT

To add to the above, there isn’t a mechanical connection between the AF motor and the focus control ring. There is only an electronic connection.  The focus controls only function when the metering system has been activated by half pressing the shutter.

It is not clear whether the lens focuses at shorter focal lengths.  Does the AF and MF work at 55mm?

How far away is the subject that you cannot focus on from the lens?  Your subject could be inside the,MFD, minimum focus distance, for the lens when it is set to maximum zoom.

Thanks for joining the conversation, DanewmoonFilmz!

So that the Community can help you better, we need to know exactly which Canon lens model you're using as we have 55-200mm lenses that use the EF mount and the EF-M mount, each of which could work with your EOS M50. That, and any other details you'd like to give will help the Community better understand your issue!

If this is a time-sensitive matter, click HERE search our knowledge base or find additional support options HERE.

Thanks and have a great day!

The 55-200mm was only available in the EF-M Mount. The 55-250mm was in the EF-S Mount and the 55-210mm in RF-S.

Thanks, Demetrius, though our product listings show three different lenses with focal lengths of 55-200mm spanning two different lens mounts, specifically:

- EF 55-200mm f/4.5-5.6 USM
- EF 55-200mm f/4.5-5.6 II USM
- EF-M 55-200mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM

We just want to make sure we're on the same page as the OP! 🙂

All EF-M lenses used STM AF motors not USM.
