scanning sizes

Using a Pixma MG5420 with iMac, I need to scan images at a specific size to send via email. Can someone explain to me how to ensure that the scanned image sent will be of the correct size? My first attempt (opening in Preview) reduced itself to less than half the size demanded.

It works fine for me. Since you don't have to open jpeg files to scan them, I don't know how you are getting this message.

If you already have them scanned and want to resize, you need to use Preview.
