I owned a Brother printer, 12 years old, would not pick up the paper out of the tray, tray empty error when it was not empty. I worked on it, cleaned the rollers, tried to adjust them, followed a few repair "hacks" I fount on YouTube.  Finally I threw it away (loud when it hit the bottom of my trash can) bought  a Canon all in one to replace it.

I definitely hated parting with my HP LaserJet 4s.  God only knows how old they were when I finally let them go.  They are legendary for a reason.  I still miss shaking the cartridge for a few more prints.  I moved to inkjet and thought I'd never own another laser printer, but I recently picked up a hobby requires laser printing so that I can transfer the pattern to wood.  I seriously thought about buying a refurb but as I use it so little I went cheap.

There definitely is a time to move on, and a time to upgrade.  I love the prints from my Canon Pro-1100.  Having that capability, even as a hobbyist, changes things for me.  There's just something about putting that photo on paper and seeing it on the wall, or handing a copy to someone that cannot be experienced otherwise.

Same move for me guys.... 🤣 HP for 12 years, worked great until it didn't.. bought my first Canon Laser and never looked back...  

My recommendation is retire your MX922.  Print heads are not inexpensive and this may or may not be the problem with your device...  by the time you're done throwing money at it you would have been able to buy a new printer.
