Yes you can I had the same issue
When you get the paper you want to print on your laptop and the message pop out to ask you how many copies to print there is an option also to use colour and black
Just untick the colour one and it will print just black.

Does that option still use color ink?  That's the issue.  I print in greyscale and it turns out that that still uses color ink cartridges.

Hi, I don't know what happened, I have same printer and a Mac OS 10.13.3. I used to get that box to print B&W, but its gone. I can't figure out how to get it back. Thanks for any info.
