Hi sarahsfloors!

So that the Community can help you better, we will need to know the Computer Operating System you're using (Windows XP/Vista/7/8 or Mac 10.x), as well as the way you connect to your PIXMA MP250 (USB or networked via WiFi or Ethernet).

Any other details you'd like to give will only help the Community better understand your issue!

If this is an urgent support need, please CLICK HERE to reach our friendly Technical Support Team by phone or email.

Thanks and have a great day!

my computer is macbook air sonoma 14.8.3

In the world of printing, there are two types of machines: those that can "think" for themselves (PostScript/PCL printers) and those that need their hands held by the computer (Host-based printers). The MP250 is the latter. It relies on your Mac's processor to do all the heavy lifting of "rendering" the image into a map of ink dots.

Since Apple dropped support for 32-bit software back in 2019, the legacy 32-bit driver that the MP250 requires simply cannot run on Sonoma 14.83. Even if you "force" a Generic PostScript driver onto the connection, the MP250 doesn't have the onboard chip to understand those commands. It’s like trying to give a recipe in French to someone who doesn't speak the language and doesn't have a kitchen—nothing is going to get cooked.

The Practical Path Forward: At this point, you are fighting a battle against hardware architecture. To get back to a seamless workflow—especially for specialized tasks like envelopes:

  1. AirPrint is Key: Modern Canon units (like the TS or TR series) use AirPrint. This is a "driverless" technology that will likely never go obsolete as long as you're on a Mac.

  2. Loyalty Discount: Since you have a retired unit, the Canon Upgrade Program is specifically designed for this scenario. They can set you up with a modern unit that handles Sonoma perfectly.

You can reach the upgrade team at 1-866-443-8002. They're available Monday through Friday, 9am to 6pm EST.
