computer doesn't recognize printer since changed ink cartridges

I have been using this Canon Pixma MG2922 for at least 2 years. This is not the first time I have had difficulty after changing out the ink cartridges but I can't remember what I need to do to get it recognized. I don't use it wireless, I have it plugged into my computer.

Ink, (whether installed of left empty) does not "change" the printers ability to be detected after connection.

If a device is not detected when you connect it to your computer, there is another problem or issue..
