Hi JoAnn,
Legal sized documents won't fit on the platen glass in it's entirety so if you either copy or scan them, any part of the document that is not on the glass will be cut off. As for whether they will worki with other old documents, each document tends to be different, so my best recommendation if you don't own the printer yet would be to see if you can try it in the store, but if you do alerady own it, you can see how it does and if needed you can always touch up the document in an image editing program if needed.
