Will PIXMA G4270 still print black if the colors run out?

I had someone ask a question on Amazon if the megatank printers will still print black only if the colors run out.  I told them, that's probably not something they will have to worry about, because I've had my printer a month and probably printed 30 pages with it and the ink levels haven't budged.  But i told them I would ask here.

Does the user manual not say anything about this?

If color ink is out on my printer, I print in black & white (or grayscale) only.  Just set it in Printer Properties before printing.  Likewise, if black ink is out, I'll just print in color on docs.
