Stuck at setup: Acquiring information on the latest driver and software, please wait (MG5750 inkjet)

Hello

 

I can't get past this step, for a new MG5750 printer, whether installing from the CD or the downloaded installer

 

"Acquiring information on the latest driver and software, please wait"

 

it eventually times out.

 

I have tried installing as administrator, and I have no firewalls running.  It seems the service it is communicating is simply not responding, would welcome any ideas.

In reply to my own message, I never got past this screen but I could download the drivers  from canon.co.uk, the file was m68n-win-mg5700-1_00-ea34_2.exe and after installing this, rebooting and connecting the printer I could use it.
