On my old, beloved canon pixma, it seemed to have more options like magazine photo, etc, for scanning and under them I could pick descreen & unsharp mask options if I wanted to scan postcards or magazine pages. I can't seem to figure out a way to do this with my 5420 & the scans are coming out just awful because of this. Help!

Hi nikjill,
The options that you had available previously are still available when using the scanner driver to scan. The scanner driver can be accessed from the IJ Scan Utility software that comes with the PIXMA MG5420. To launch the Scanner driver, please follow these steps:
1. Launch the IJ Scan Utility.
1-1. If using Windows: Go to your START MENU, then select ALL PROGRAMS, then CANON UTILITIES, then IJ SCAN UTILITY (folder), then IJ SCAN UTILITY (program).
1-2. If using a Mac: From the GO MENU of Finder, select APPLICATIONS, then double-click the CANON UTILITIES folder, then IJ SCAN UTILITY folder, then IJ SCAN UTILITY icon.
2. In the toolbar that opens, please click on the SCANGEAR button. The ScanGear window (scanner driver) should then open.
3. Click on the ADVANCED MODE tab to select your options.
Hope this helps!
