I've setup the MG5520 loading the latest software from Canon website. I can scan from the printer to the PC so there is a working connection but when I try to print I receive teh error message "printer not responding." OS: Windows 7.

Hello.
To try and resolve this issue, please try powering the printer off and back on. Then restart your computer to see if this will refresh the conection.
