Pixma TS6520 cannot be found by chromebook

I got a new TS6520 on my wireless network via the interface on the printer. I want to print from a chromebook, but the chromebook does not see the printer on the network. I tried adding the printer manually with its IP address, but that did not work either.

Troubleshooting PIXMA TS6520 Connection Issues with Chromebook

If your PIXMA TS6520 printer cannot be found by your Chromebook, follow these steps to resolve the issue.

Check Printer and Network Settings

  • Power On: Ensure the printer is turned on and connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Chromebook.

  • Wi-Fi Connection: Verify that the printer is connected to your Wi-Fi. You can check this on the printer's display or through the Canon PRINT app.

Update Printer Firmware

  • Firmware Updates: Make sure your PIXMA TS6520 has the latest firmware. Check the Canon website for any available updates and follow the instructions to install them.

Chromebook Settings

  • Add Printer: On your Chromebook, go to Settings > Advanced > Printing > Printers. Click on "Add Printer" and see if your PIXMA TS6520 appears in the list.

  • Restart Devices: Restart both your Chromebook and the printer to refresh the connection.

Additional Tips

  • USB Connection: If wireless connection fails, consider connecting the printer directly to the Chromebook using a USB cable.

  • Support Resources: For further assistance, visit the Canon support page for detailed guides and troubleshooting tips specific to the PIXMA TS6520.

I've been through all the normal troubleshooting steps.

In this day and age with well established protocols, why is this even happening? Is this a known issue?

I think it is known,  there are threads on many tech forums including Chromebook sites, describing this same problem. I discovered today that one forum took the poster to this guide, which has a link to Chromebook supported Canon printers, and the TS6520 is not on the list.

List of Chromebook supported Canon Printers.

I've seen conflicting lists of "supported" printers. One Canon page says the TS6500 series is is supported.

But again, why? We've been printing from PCs for decades. Easily finding a printer on the network should be trivial.
