Pixma TS5120 printing faded/light colors

This has been a problem since we got the printer and it's so frustrating. Any documents from Word are printed right, but any pictures I get online, including digital downloads I've bought from Etsy, come out totally faded. Sometimes pictures that are saved to the computer, like pictures I took on my camera or pictures I sent to the computer from my phone come out faded too. The ink isn't the issue. Anyone else having this problem?

Hi kk7,

What version of Windows is installed on your computer?  If you are using a Mac, what version of OSX is installed?

When printing the images, what is the size and type of paper that you are using?

Thanks for answering.

We have Windows 10 on the laptop. Version 21H1.

It doesn’t seem to matter what size of paper we’re printing on. Typically it’s 8.5 x 11 but even photo paper of various sizes will print faded.

Most of the time it’s standard paper but sometimes cardstock. Either way they’re coming out like the pastel version, not the real vibrancy.

Hi kk7! Thanks for posting in the Canon Community Forum. I see that your colored prints are faint when you use your PIXMA TS5120. You mention that you have a Windows 10 computer, and you have tried printing on different types of paper. Also, your Word documents print fine.

To start troubleshooting, I recommend that you print a nozzle check pattern to examine the colors. The instructions can be found in the following section of the manual:

https://ij.manual.canon/ij/webmanual/Manual/All/TS5100%20series/EN/UG/ug_m_01_c.html

If some of the colored bars in the pattern are missing or streaky, I recommend that you clean the print head as instructed by the manual (same link as above). If the nozzle test is fine, I recommend reinstalling the TS5100 series MP Drivers Ver. 1.01 (89.55 MB) from the following website:

https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/details/printers/inkjet-multifunction/ts-s...

The MP Drivers Ver.1.01 is the third option listed under Optional Drivers.

After you reinstall the MP Drivers, please try printing again. When the print window opens, please check if there is an option to select the Paper Type (or Media Type). If you do not see that option, please check if the program will allow you to open the Printing Preferences/ Properties window. You should be able to select the Paper Type in the Preferences/Properties window.

Please make sure that you are selecting a paper type that matches the type of paper you are printing on. The following section of the manual explains what you will see in the Preferences/ Properties window:

https://ij.manual.canon/ij/webmanual/PrinterDriver/W/TS5100%20series/1.0/EN/PPG/Dg-quick.html

If your prints are still coming out faded or light, please install and use the Easy-PhotoPrint Editor program offered by Canon for your printer. It can be downloaded from the following website:

https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/details/printers/inkjet-multifunction/ts-s...

The Easy-PhotoPrint Editor Ver.1.6.5 is the first option listed under Optional Software. Instructions for using this program can be found in this section of the manual:

https://ij.manual.canon/ij/webmanual/EasyPhotoPrintEditor/W/1.6/EN/EPE/Top.html

Should you continue to need help, I recommend that you create a My Canon account and register the printer to see what support options you have. If you have already registered your printer, you can sign into your account to check your support options. You can use the following link to create or open your account:

https://myprofile.americas.canon.com/us/signin

After you create your account and register the printer, you can click on GET SUPPORT (in the left column of the account page) to find out what your support options are. You may still be entitled to Chat or Phone support. If not, please come back to the community.

I hope this information helps. Thanks again.
