Pixma MX 892 Won't Turn On

Mortypie

My Pixma MX892, which I would guess is a little over a year old, has suddenly stopped working.  I was able to print just two days ago, but now the unit will not turn on at all.  Yes it is plugged in and yes the cord is connected to the unit.  It simply won't start no matter how many times the power button is pushed or how long it is held down.  Is this a known issue and what might be a way to fix this problem?

My 892 died as well and the internet community is full of users cursing their Canons for dying after a couple years. I registered for this 'canon community' just to warn people that this is a built in problem.  I will not buy another canon

Mine died too and there are so many complaints about the printer just stopping that I felt compelled to post something. Beware of Canon

I suspect this problem is not just limited to MX 892, my Pixma MP230 has the same problem. I did as suggested and unplugged cords from printer and wall outlet as well as trying another power socket and cord to no avail.
Perhaps this is a design feature, designed to force customers to buy another printer!
Though there is no charge to reach technical support, I suspect the same cannot be said for a service!

Hello All,

I just want to add my two cents to this forum.  In the past i have always been very pleased with Canon products.  I purchased my Canon MX 892 printer about 16 months ago because I wanted a wireless printer.  My previous Canon printer was not wireless and that was my main reason for replacing it as it was functioning perfectly.  I should have kept it.  My printer has been very lightly used since I purchased it.  When I turned it on recently I had a low ink message so I opened the printer and checked the cartridge and it did need rreplaced.  When I closed the printer it turned off by itself.  I lthen followed Canon's instructions to  unplug the cord for 3 minutes and it did turn back on.  At this point I rremoved the empty cartridge and truned off the printer.  I just received new cartridges today and when I tried to turn on the printer it would not turn on.  I then went through the same things I had done several days ago....and still no luck.  Then I stumbled upon the community and was appalled to find so many others who have had exactly the same problem.  I then contacted technical support and they could not help.  My choice now is to fix the printer....which after reading this forum does not seem like a good idea, or buy a new printer.  I have always been happy with Canon products, however I do not believe that I will be purchasing another Canon printer.

Hello I have the same problem, the printer is Pixma mg5520. Please let me know what can I do to fix the problem.

Having pretty much the exact same problem with my MX922.  In the automotive industry, they would call this a Service Bulletin.  aka - RECALL!!!

It was somewhat of a slow clunker but it did print pretty good, and scanned very nicely.  I also liked the individual cartridges for each color, and that I could use a variety of brands of cartridge.

However, it lived a very short life, less than 2 years, and since it's dead, it's being replaced with another printer with very similar qualities, but hopefully none of the fatal "issues".  I expected better from Canon, and apparently HP has alao really gone downhill too.  Had bought a replacement HP for this Canon day before yesterday, as I have always done well with HP.  However, after reading reviews on the HP (I usually read reviews first, buy second), I didn't even bother to open the box, I just took it straight back to Costco.  That HP (7645) had most every issue a printer can have, and now HP has designed their printers so you can ONLY use HP ink cartridges (and it will screw you around on those too if you don't handle them just right!).

So what the heck gives with HP and Canon anyways?!  They used to make such excellent products, now they're just pieces of crap with expensive marketing programs.  Canon, HP, people won't buy junk for very long, you'd better get that message through your head.  QUALITY!!!....that's right, today's consumers actually expect quality, and yes, at an affordable price.  You don't have to be the cheapest (price that is), but you need to have the best quality and reliability, and don't try and rip people off on print cartridges.  If you ever let that message sink in and put it into practice, I might buy another one of your products....but it will be years from now, and you will have to prove yourself to me.  I build computers.  You can sell me junk once, but not twice.  Now, in the meantime, I'll just wait for my new E**** brand printer to arrive and see if it lasts any longer than my 10 year HP or my 2 year Canon.

  See ya later Canon.

From everything I've read on this particular Forum Thread - yes. I haven't concluded that 100% just yet for my Pixma MX922. I will discuss first with Canon CS before taking my Pixma (and sadly my last Canon) to the recycle depot. But I'm pretty sure it is terminal failure.

Same issue here. My father and I both have these printers-- his lasted about 2 years with moderate use, and mine lasted about 2 years with very light use-- e.g., I have probably printed less than 50 times. I got a B200 error message and managed to fix that, started to print something, then went dead. Also it would never stay connected to my wifi. This clunky, slow, heavy printer takes ridiculously expensive ink and has been a hassle since the beginning. Won't be buying another Cannon.

My Pixma 892 lasted 3 years and just died..Another one bites the dust!
