Pixma MG77220 will not scan via buttons on top of printer to Mac, have to open scanner utility

Pixma MG77220 will not scan via buttons on top of printer to Mac (Imac with El Capitan), have to open scanner utility to make scanner work.  When using the buttons to go to Image Capture or the Cannon software it says not connected.  It is not an isue with the Firewall issue either.  I am connected via USB, have not even tried to get wireless to work yet.  It does print fine.

Any fixes?

Hi ewalters66,

Please try uninstalling the scanner driver and then downloading the latest version from Canon's web site.  To do this, please follow these steps:

 1. Open the hard drive (Macintosh HD).

 2. Open the 'Library' folder.

 3. Open 'Image Capture'.

 4. Open the 'Twain Data Sources' folder.

 5. Send any Canon files related to your PIXMA MG7700 series unit to the trash.

 6. Restart your computer.

 7. Empty the trash.

Please follow these steps to download the driver:

 1.  Visit Canon's website at: http://usa.canon.com/support

 2.  Type PIXMA MG7720 in the "Enter a Model Name" box.

 3.  Under Recommended Downloads, click the Select button next to the "ICA Driver".

 4.  If you agree, please click the check box next to "I have read and agree to the terms of the Disclaimer and wish to continue with the download".

 5.  Click the Download button.

 6.  If a Save As box comes up, click Save.

 7.  While the file is downloading, open the Downloads folder.

 8.  Double click [misd-mac-ijscanner15f-4_1_3-ea21_3.dmg ] and mount it on the Disk Image.

 9.  Double click the mounted Disk Image.

10.  Double click the packaged file in the folder.

Installation starts automatically.

Once installed, please attempt to scan.

It did not work. I did all the steps, though I did not find the Twain Data Sources folder on my computer. I use the printer control pannel and it opens image capture, but nothing happens after that.
