Does this printer have an automatic turn off mode.  I turn it on and a day later when I look to print it has to be manually turned back on.  If yes, is there a setting to leave it on??

Arthur j has found the right answer, but one last step is necessary.

Under "ECO settings", (page 183 in the manual) in the section "turning the printer off automatically" on step #6 where you select the number of hours before the printer shuts off, you use the right arrow button to view the selections.  You have to select "OFF" and "OK" to prevent the printer from turning off.  This is a sort of weird way of thinking, but it works!

In the section "turning the printer on automatically" go to step #6 and select "on" and "OK".  The printer will now print as soon as you hit "print" as the printer is already on.

The factory default setting to turn the printer off may save you $2.13 per year, but it sure isn't worth the aggravation of having to go downstairs to turn the printer on several times each day!
