PIXMA iX6820 Tips for printing on deckled edge paper?

I’ve seen a lot of videos saying that the Pixma IX6820 can handle up to 300GSM deckled edge paper but I’m still getting misprint/misalignments when I try to manually load them in one by one. Am I doing something wrong? Are they any tips?

Tips for printing on deckled edge paper

Printing on deckled edge paper requires inkjet printers, manual single-sheet feeding, and adjusting for thick/uneven textures to prevent jams and ink bleeds. Use the rear feed tray, print with generous margins (at least 1/4 inch), and use carrier sheets (taping to A4) if the printer struggles with smaller sizes.

Key Tips for Success:
  • Printer Type: Inkjet printers (like Canon Pixma Pro or Epson models) are preferred over laser printers for handling the thick, fibrous nature of handmade paper.
  • Feeding the Paper: Always use the manual/rear feed tray, not the main paper tray, to avoid jams. Feed one sheet at a time.
  • Preventing Jams & Misfeeds: Flatten any extreme curls in the paper with your fingers before printing. Use a carrier sheet (tape the handmade paper to a standard piece of paper) for better feeding.
  • Handling Deckle Edges: If the deckle edge is too thick, it can cause smudging. Use the "envelope" or "thick paper" setting in your print dialog.
  • Alignment: Because deckled edges are uneven, align the straightest edge of your paper against the printer guide.
  • Ink Management: Handmade paper is very absorbent. Clean printer heads prior to printing, and consider adjusting your design to a lower color density if the ink spreads.
  • Post-Printing: Let the prints dry completely. If ink collects on the deckled edges, carefully trim them with a hobby knife or pull away the fibers.
