PIXMA TS6420a error message: IJ printer assistant tool cannot be found

When clicking the IJ Printer Assistant tool icon, I get the message:  A printer that supports the IJ printer assistant tool cannot be found.  Also, what is the purpose of the Canon Print Assistant.  It just has some notes on usage.  Thank you.
