Hello,

I have a TS6420 inkjet printer, and I have been getting an ink pad absorber is full message.  I removed the small pads under the ink cartridges and cleaned them, and I would like to reset, so I will not keep getting that message.  What is the procedure for resetting this?

Thank You

Greetings,

The ink absorber pads are not user replaceable and there is no method to fully reset the printer.  With some models you can put the printer into service mode but this is not 100% effective.

Canon uses proprietary software to reset the service counter. This is not available to the general public.

I recommend you contact Canon Support and see what they recommend   If the printer is within its 1-year warranty, They may simply replace it.  If the printer is out of warranty, they'll let you know what options you have.

Hello Rick,

I did not replace the pads, I cleaned them.   There are two small pads under where the ink cartridges rest.  There is one under the color cartridge and one under the black cartridge.  I tried to find a way to contact customer support, but all I can find is a phone number that charges $20 per call.  All I needed was to ask this one simple question.  Yes, my printer is out of warranty.

Greetings,

To see your support options, you can register your device in your MyCanon portal.

Then call support.  1-800-652-2666.  Out of warranty support might incur a small charge.  Ink absorbers, removed, replaced or cleaned is all the same.  They have a useful life and once this is exceeded the printer would require service by Canon.  In some cases the cost to ship and repair might exceed the cost of replacement.  Maybe not if you live close to a service center.  As I mentioned, there is not a way for end users to reset the ink counters.  This is a factory service.  If you have questions about it, I suggest reaching out to Canon Support.

Hello Rick,

After a long time on hold, I spoke with someone at Canon's service center.  The tech said the printer would eventually stop working once it had reached a certain number of cleaning cycles.  The printer keeps count of the cleaning cycles and estimates when the pad will become full. Right now, the printer is giving me a message letting me know it will reach that number soon.  Even though I cleaned the pads, there is no way I can reset the cleaning cycle count.  They said that they do not work on printers anymore because it's not cost-effective.  They have a program to give a small discount on a new printer instead of repairing.  I did some research and found a Canon model that would meet my needs well and be more cost-effective for me.  The model I ordered has a replaceable maintenance cartridge and printhead, which would eliminate the problem with the waste pads getting full.  Thank you for your help.
