Thanks for joining the conversation, JoniA!
So that the Community can help you better, we need to know exactly which operating system is running on your computer (i.e. Windows or macOS, and which version thereof). That, and any other details you'd like to give will help the Community better understand your issue!
We should also point out that our official customer support team here at Canon USA does not sell VPNs or offer any service other than making sure your printer works as intended. There is also no fee for in-warranty support. If you spoke to someone who tried to sell you other things or tried to charge you just for talking to them about your new printer, it's likely that you were talking to someone else claiming to be us.
If this is a time-sensitive matter, click HERE search our knowledge base or find additional support options HERE.
Thanks and have a great day!

Thank you Danny 🙂
@JoniA,
Sorry to inform you, but it sounds like you were scammed. "So I called the number that came up" What number was that?
Canon's telephone number is 1 (800) 652-2666
I want to be completely clear. Canon does not charge $100 dollars for support. Your printer comes with free installation assistance. It sounds like you may have got connected with some scammers or criminals.
If you provided your credit card or gave the party you spoke with access to your computer, I suggest you contact your financial institution and have someone who is qualified to check your system for malware.
Its important you understand this. I am sorry this happened, but Canon does not charge for installation assistance, nor do they sell VPN. This sounds like a scam. Moving forward, please be careful and know who you are communicating with.
