PIXMA TR8622a won't scan

canon86

Using windows 7, usb connection. Have had the printer/scanner for awhile with no problems. Recently I tried to print a legal size paper and messed with the settings to the point I couldn't print anything. I uninstalled and started over. Printing/copying work fine, but the scanner does not. It says "processing please wait" momentarily then goes back to previous screen. I tried troubleshooting with windows, but that was no help. I read on another post to look for the IJScan Utility folder. I am unable to find that or any other folder to do with scan. Suggestions? Thanks.

Hi canon86,

The IJ Scan Utility is part of the driver installation.

Please click on the Windows Start button, All Programs, then the Canon Utilities folder.

If the IJ Scan Utility is not in that folder, the driver has not been installed.

Please remove the TR8622a from your computer and disconnect the USB cable.

Next, please download the driver from the Support Page of your TR8622a:

https://www.usa.canon.com/support/p/pixma-tr8622a#DOWNLOADS

Once that page loads, click on the Software & Drivers section.

Choose Windows and Winodws 7 from the drop down boxes if needed.

Please click the Download button to the right of TR8600 series Driver setup package (Windows).

A file will download.  Once the download is complete, please open your Downloads folder and double click "win-tr8600-1_3-n_mcd.exe" to begin the installation on your computer.

Hi Patrick,

I tired your method but still having issues with a Windows 11. The IJ Scan Utility works when operating from the software but when I click the Scan button on the TR8622a, it starts to run and then goes back to the home screen. After installing the software yesterday, the button was working but this morning, it has stopped. I've even unplugged the Canon and hold the power button down for several seconds while unplugged from the wall. The printer is connected via USB. Are there any firmware updates for this?

Greetings,

This is a two year old thread.  It's helpful if you start your own topic since hardware and software environments can differ.  It's also not possible for you to mark a topic as resolved unless it's your own.

Firmware misconception.  Firmware is typically released to address security vulnerabilities.  These updates can also add functionality that wasn't present previously, but with printers it's not typically the case.  The only exception would be if a firmware addressed a specific issue you were experiencing, which is not applicable in this case.  You did have things working for a day. Firmware updates are not needed for the printer to function.

I would suggest following the steps above again.  Disconnect the USB cable from your system, uninstall the printer driver, remove the printer from your system and restart your PC.

After restart rerun, the installation utility, do not connect the printer until prompted to do so by the installation utility. Try connecting it to a different USB port this time.

If you look closely at the IJ scan utility when it's open, you'll notice in the top left hand corner. There are two icons, one for your computer and one for the printer.  Click on the printer icon and ensure the parameters on this screen such as the save directory is correct.

Now retest scanning from the button on the printer.

FYI,  I do not see any firmware listed for your device on its support portal.

It might be possible for you to check for firmware in the printers remote UI.  An internet connection is required.
