PIXMA TR4720 - Get the ink cartridge holders to open

I just recently purchased a PIXMA TR 4720. I cannot get the ink cartridge holders to open for me. There are two blue levers at the left of the compartment that I was told to push down with force. I still cannot get the cartridge holders to open.

Just so you know, this is my first Canon product I have purchased. I am not happy.  Can someone PLEASE guide me through this process?

To replace the ink cartridges of your PIXMA TR4720, please follow the steps on this page from the manual:

TR4700 series > Handling Paper, Originals, FINE Cartridges, etc. > Replacing a FINE Cartridge
