PIXMA MX922 not detected on Windows 11 Dell Latitude 7400 laptop via wireless or USB

This printer was installed on our desktop PC within the last several months, I would estimate, but when we recently tried installing it on the aforementioned laptop, both wirelessly and via USB connection, it always failed. With the USB attempts it always showed the "Caution! Printer not detected" message and with the wireless attempts it correctly identified the printer's IP address but kept saying it couldn't connect. Using the Print Driver and Scan Utility Installer Ver.1.01. My adult nephew was about to pull his hair out so I'm posting here just in case we can get it working somehow.

I know the USB cable provides at least some connectivity because not only were there connection/disconnection feedback sounds but we were able to go partway through the process of connecting wirelessly by incorporating the USB cable at one point when given that option. Unfortunately I don't have any other USB cables I can easily test with to see if this one is impaired somehow. But then again there is still the issue that it apparently won't connect wirelessly without the USB cable.

I have a tech background but I don't know what I'm missing here.

Please help.

Thank you but step 9 never completed. It always said it could not detect the printer on the network, even though it displayed its proper IP address as I think I mentioned in my original post. I know it was the proper IP address because I looked at the list of devices with IPs on my router. And the laptop and printer were on the same 2.4GHz wifi network.

Update:

After shifting some devices off of the 2.4GHz network, restarting the router, etc., the printer was finally detected but then after the installation and turning off the wifi to connect via USB, the Canon IJ Scan utility was saying that the printer wasn't connected, even though it was showing up in Printers & Scanners in settings, and it showed as "idle".

I probably should have explained that my goal is to connect via USB because of the much faster scanning. There are a large number of scanning jobs to do and the wireless connection is too slow for that. We have compared the two on the previous computer setup and there is no contest, at least using Auto Splitter scanning software which we need for what we're doing.

Try these instructions that do not use wifi as the connection.
