Printer will only print using black ink when photo paper is selected in printer properties. If plain paper is selected, will only print outlines of what's black but in colours.
Unfortunately not ideal as very slow for just a few pages of a word document.
What to do?

Hello.
Try performing both a black and color copy using the black and color buttons directly on the printer. Do either of these copy attempts come out blank?

Hello.
If you are using new genuine Canon brand cartridges, make sure that the bright orange tape has been removed from the bottom of each cartridge.
