PIXMA MG5750 Inconsistent print quality

Anonymous
Not applicable

On printed pages the lines of print appear alternately as really heavily bold  type and at a lesser intensity, i.e. two differing intensities / thicknesses.  I think the heavily bold type is due to the effect of each letter being printed twice with a sideways offset between, like a shadow.  There is a test print which I ran off after fitting a new set of cartridges just before this problem appeared.  It displays the output for each colour cartridge - a series of colour bands.  The PGBK output however is a matrix of horizontal and vertical thin black lines (like graph paper) and in this instance each of the vertical lines are single at the top and bottom ends but they split into two parallel lines each between the extremities.  I'm thinking that this splitting of the lines into a pair is directly related to the bold (or shadowed) print.

Might there be a problem with the new PGBK cartridge?

Can any member of the community offer explanation and / or advice on dealing with this please?
