I downloaded a update to my MG 5620 today. Now I am receiving Code: 1689. In past prior to todays update, I could bypass that code easily with just touching the Black print indicator. That did not change screen or print. I checked my ink cartridges and both black cartridges are ok. It's only the C cartridge (Blue) that is empty. ANd now I can't even get out of that support code window 1689 to scan or look to see if my print mode is color or black only? I am out of warranty and experiencing difficulty having Canon tech either do a paid service ticket or offer me a trade up to a new model. Thank you for your concern. Arnold

Hi,
Try holding the stop button down on the printer for 5 seconds then press the black or color start button.
If that does not resolve the issue the printer would need to be replaced. Since the printer is out of warranty, you would qualify for the Canon Upgrade program.
