For the past year or so, my printer (even though it is set on standard printing, black & white) will drain my photo black and then stop printing. I have a full XL tank of black ink, but it will not continue printing with that ink???? Does anyone have an idea what's wrong? Thanks.....

Hi,
I would double check your print settings to make sure print quality is set to standard. Also, make sure grayscale is not selected. Grayscale will use the color ink to make a dark grey that could be perceived as black and white text.

I checked my settings again. Preferences are set on standard and plain paper ( grayscale is not checked), but when I look under Properties/General/Features/Color....it says "yes"? I don't know what's going on, but all I know is that I have a full XL tank of black ink and the photo black is empty even though I haven't printed much in color. Of course nothing will print now until I replace the photo black. Thanks for your input.

Greetings,
To elaborate on ArthurJ's reply. Black is the presence of all colors. White is the absence of colors. On your printer, any setting besides standard "plain paper" will consume some portion of the photo inks.
