Does anyone know if there is a driver for Windows 11 for the Canon MG5420 printer?  I can't install it on my new computer as it's stating driver isn't available.  Thanks in advance.

Thanks for letting us know what Canon product you've got. The PIXMA MG5420 is an older model which we have retired. While that means that Canon USA no longer offers direct support for it, your friends here in the Canon Community are welcome to offer suggestions!

You can also speak with a Canon Upgrade Program specialist to help you score a modern replacement that would meet your current needs at a discount. You can reach them weekdays and Saturdays at 1-866-443-8002.

Hope this helps!

I have the same problem.  Have you found a solution?

The fact that Canon retired this printer, there still should be all the drivers available for download from the site, since almost all the new computers do not have disk drives.  I've even bought an remote disk drive and can't connect to the laptop.  Bring back the drivers!!!!!!!

All drivers that were developed prior to the PIXMA MG5420 being retired are still available but can be removed from the site at any time for any reason.

Our developers didn't create a Windows 11 driver because the printer had been retired when Windows 11 was released.

That being said, you're welcome to try using the Windows 10 drivers; however, we can't guarantee they'll work. You just need to change the dropdown for your version of Windows from Windows 11 to Windows 10 (just 10, not 64), change the Download Type to "Drivers," and select the recommended option. Remember, since the unit is retired, support can't help, but it either will or won't work—it won't break anything. HERE is a shortcut to the page.

I hope this is helpful!

Hello, I am running into this issue on the PIXMA GM5420, and the windows 10 drivers are not working for me. How can you help me resolve this?

Danny. My man...
Look, I get that planned obsolescence is a thing and you want to push sales, but if I'm in the market for a new printer and I've got several hundred dollars to spend, I'm not going with a company that I know might leave me holding a brick in 5 years because they can't be bothered with something as basic as keeping their drivers up to date for a reasonable period of time.

And Danny, I get that you have no control over this stuff. I get it; you just happen to have the unenviable task of relaying the information. Kudos to you for working Tier-1 customer support and likely being underpaid for it.

Hello slick514,

We appreciate your feedback .

We're unsure where you're getting that "5 year" number from, but the PIXMA MG5420 was introduced in 2012, thirteen years ago. It was supported up until 2022.

We hope that clears up any misunderstanding or misinformation.

Don't listen to the doomsayers. I have an MG5420 which is using the same driver/software (for Win Vista-7/8/8.1/10) since I had Windows 7.  It works perfectly with 11.

Many people are getting scared off when they don't see a Windows 11 driver. 11 is not so different from previous versions, Vista thru 10, that there's a good chance the previous software will work fine. Same goes for other things besides printers. My Canoscan 8800F scanner works perfectly in Win 11 with the earlier software.

In any case, it doesn't hurt anything to try older software with Windows 11.

I tried the older drivers with Windows 11, and they did not work. Did you need to go through any specific process to get them to work?
