Did you mean:

PIXMA MG3650 able to print in black and white?

sarahsarah

I'm using a wireless printer/scanner MG3600 series from my Mac running OS10.14.1

I can't figure out how to opt for only black-and-white printing when the document or image has color on it. I'm unable to find a "grayscale" option anywhere under the print menus from any application. Can you please advise how to access grayscale printing?

Thanks.

Hi sarahsarah,

I understand you have a PIXMA MG3650 and would like to print the document or image in blackand white only. After you have the item open and ready to print. Open the print dialog box. Below Orientation, there will be a small box that will display the current applications name (e.g. preview) click on it, adjust the name to either Quality & Media or Printer Features. Black & White or Grayscale printing option should be available for you.

Hello, sarahsarah!

So that the Community can help you better, we will need to know exactly which model printer you're using (it's usually on the top or front of the unit), any error messages you're seeing, and the Computer Operating System you're using (Windows Vista/7/8/10 or macOS 10.x), as well as the way you connect to your device (USB or networked via WiFi or Ethernet).

Any other details you'd like to give will only help the Community better understand your issue!

Printer: Canon PIXMA MG3650

Error message: none (simply can't find a way to opt for black and white only printing)

OS: Mac OS 10.14.1

Connection: Wifi

Thanks for any guidance. I feel stuck printing everything in color when I really don't need or want to!

I have this printer installed in 2 instances on one Mac. One as Canon MG3600, another one as Canon MG3600 series 2. The second one doesn't show the color options. The first one (the main installation) does, although they refer to the same physical printer.

So this is not truly "solved" in the sense that you can have your printer naturally default to black only... you have to literally check this option every time. Which you think may be a non issue if you're only printing black text, but SURPRISE, even though that may be true, you'll find that you are ALSO using your costly COLOR cartridge, something these printers do to cause you to buy more color ink, even though you may have never made a color copy of ANYthing. I find that Canon is not as fast and loose as many printer manufacturers out there... ones that will literally make you buy ink if you own their printers, by "updating" software automatically, so your old ink, which is still ink, viable and usable, and IN your machine, but is no longer usable after the "update"... CANON does not do that, which is why they have my business, but I think it's also important to call out other things like this, when in the past it was an option, at some point a bean counter said, "hey! if we remove "X" then "Y" will rise +X/Y% and the stockholders will ___!" And so it becomes a non-option and you find yourself buying color ink to print black text. (Unless you figure out a way to outsmart the printer).
