PIXMA MG3620 will not print black

Hello, I have a Canon MG3620 printer. It has been working well for several years. I changed the black ink cartridge, as it was running low and had switched to printing in color only. After changing the black ink cartridge, the printer will not attempt to print black. I've reinstalled the black cartridge, restarted the printer, and tried holding the stop/cancel button for 5 seconds to reset the ink counter. I printed a nozzle check pattern, and the cyan, magenta, and yellow lines, as well as the C, M, and Y labels print just fine. There is no BK line or line pattern on the check pattern page. I tried one cleaning and one deep cleaning cycle via the stop/cancel button commands, but have gotten the same results. Any recommendations?

It is very possible you have a faulty black cartridge. It is also possible the printer set itself to print color only which can be disabled. If it is toggle it off.

To set your Canon PIXMA MG3620 to color-only printing on Windows, access the printer driver setup window, navigate to the Maintenance tab, select Ink Cartridge Settings, choose Color Only, and click OK. This ensures the printer relies on the FINE color cartridge, though both cartridges must be installed to function.

Hi Derrick,

Thanks very much. I checked the ink cartridge settings, but it was set to both color and black ink. I changed it to black, printed another page with same results, then back to color and black, but all with same results. I've ordered another cartridge. Anything else I should try while the cartridge is on the way?

Thanks again!

If you don't have the original black cartridge and it has some ink still in it I think you have done what you can.

Hi Derrick,

It was just a faulty black cartridge. After installing a new cartridge, everything works perfectly. Thanks for helping resolve this issue!
