PIXMA MG3620 says "may be out of ink"- but I'm not

Print Center on my Mac says "The printer may be out of ink."  This is the color cartridge.  The yellow light for CL is on but not flashing.  A test point shows solid colors.  Replacing the cartridge did not help.  I also tried the reset procedure of pulling the plug while powered on, pressing the power button five times, waiting 60 seconds and plugging back in.  That didn't help either.  Anything else I can try?

When the light next to CL or BK on  your PIXMA MG3620 is steady, that means ink is low.  When the light blinks, that means ink is out.

Because the ink status on your printer did not change even after changing ink cartridges, it would appear that your PIXMA MG3620 would require service.  If your PIXMA MG3620 was purchased less than a year ago, please contact one of Canon's Technical Support Representatives via phone or chat to obtain your in warranty options. To contact a Technical Support Representative, please use the link below to log into your My Canon account:

Once logged in, click on your PIXMA MG3620 and then click on the Product Support button.  When that page loads, click on either the Phone Support button or the Chat Support button to access support.

If your PIXMA MG3620 is out of warranty, you are eligible for Canon's Upgrade Program. This is for out of warranty units which have been diagnosed to require service, or for some reason are incompatible with a new or upgraded system. This option allows you a one-time opportunity to purchase a replacement product, discounted from the list price.

Thanks, but I'll pass.  It works fine and I run a test print every week so I should know pretty quickly when it is actually out of ink.  A replacement is currently on sale at Amazon for $39, which has a lot of appeal, but then I thought why spend the money if the thing is still working.

I understand that rationale, but if the replacement printer comes with ink (which they often do) it may be a wise purchase.

That is an excellent point!  The Amazon AI claims it includes ink but I can't be sure at that price.  If it doesn't I can always return it.

Well, I got the printer, $39 with two of the small ink cartridges.  I set it up and **bleep** if the CL light isn't still on.  Looks like a faulty cartridge, although the replacement cartridge did the same thing.  Anyhow, I now have a new printer and the test page will tell me when I'm actually running out of color ink.  In the meantime, I now have a backup printer should I ever need one!
