I suspect a black ink absorber full. I don't know if the MG3100 alarms when an absorber is full. This is the closest video guide I could find to your printer:

Causes of Ink Leaking in Canon PIXMA MG3100

If your Canon PIXMA MG3100 is leaking ink, there are a couple of common issues to investigate:

Full Ink Absorber

  • The ink absorber collects waste ink during printing and cleaning cycles.
  • When it becomes full, it can lead to leaks.
  • Check for error messages related to the ink absorber, such as "Ink absorber almost full."

Damaged Cartridges

  • Faulty or damaged cartridges can also cause ink leaks.
  • Inspect the cartridges for any signs of damage or improper installation.
  • Replace any cartridges that appear to be defective.

Steps to Address the Issue

Check the Ink Absorber

  1. Inspect for Error Codes: Look for any error messages on the printer display.
  2. Reset the Ink Absorber Counter: If the absorber is full, you may need to reset the counter after cleaning or replacing it.
  3. Replace or Clean the Absorber: If necessary, replace the ink absorber to prevent further leaks.

Inspect and Replace Cartridges

  1. Remove Cartridges: Take out the cartridges and check for any visible damage.
  2. Install New Cartridges: If damaged, replace them with new cartridges to ensure proper function.
  3. Check Installation: Make sure cartridges are installed correctly to avoid leak
I will teach you step by step how to remove and clean the pads that sit under the ink cartridges in your printer to absorb excess ink. This service will help if you are having streaky, low quality printouts. Performing this service regularly will help keeping your printouts looking sharp.
