This is my second printer with the same problem--I put in reset codes, and after several attempts when I turn it off it stays off--won't turn back on. (So I think it is done on purpose.)
The problem I had before trying to reset this printer is that the ink jet is stuck to the left and won't move. And the reason I was moving the ink jet was that it wasn't recognizing the new black ink cartridge.
Step 1 - How to I get it to turn back on?
