I just bought a TR8720a printer for my MAC OS desktop computer. I have had this computer since 2011. I cannot get my computer to connect to the printer though I have tried everything including downloading the setup and installing the software. I can scan but I cannot print. The printer reads that it is processing but does not print.

Thanks for joining the conversation, WayneKocher!
So that the Community can help you better, we need to know exactly which version of macOS is running on your Mac and whether you're trying to connect via a USB cable or via Wi-Fi. That, and any other details you'd like to give will help the Community better understand your issue!

MAC OS High Sierra 27" screen, version 10.13.6, year 2010. No cable was provided so I am using the original cable provided with my MAC from 2010. When I hit print button, the printer responds but just continues to process but never prints.

When you say responds does the printer print head move? I suspect a cable issue.

NO. Printer head does not move. Bought a new cable. Everything is hooked up but my printer shows that it is still offline.

Greetings,
Can you please confirm the model number of your device? I don't see a TR8720a you referenced. I am familiar with the TR8620a
The TR8620a is supported under MAC OS 10.12.6 Sierra and later.
Drivers are available here:
https://www.usa.canon.com/support/p/pixma-tr8620a#idReference%3Dsoftware-drivers
Select Mac 10.15 Catalina OS for drivers download. <This is not a typo. These are the 2 packages which you will need.
Download both and save to your desktop. Then proceed with the steps below.
Disconnect the USB cable from your Mac
Open the printers and scanners applet and remove the printer instance using the minus key (-)
Next open the Applications folder and uninstall (drag to trash can) all Canon software drivers or utilities
important: Restart your Mac
Now run the TR8600 Series Setup. Do not connect the USB cable until prompted to do so by the installer.
Now run the IJ Scanner utility lite setup.
Printing and scanning should now be available. Please reply back with the results.
