Hi Mutantmike,
First, please make sure that the installed ink tanks are correct and full of ink. The correct order is:
CLI-251M magenta
CLI-251BK black
CLI-251Y yellow
PGI-250BK black
CLI-251C cyan
Next, please print the nozzle check pattern to determine whether the ink is ejecting properly from the print head. To do this, please follow these steps:
1. Make sure that the machine is turned on.
2. Load a sheet of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper in the Auto Sheet Feeder or the Cassette.
3. Open the Paper Output Tray and then open the Output Tray Extension.
4. To print the nozzle check pattern:
4-1. Press the MENU button.
4-2. Press the Setup button.
4-3. Select Maintenance, then press the OK button. The Maintenance screen is displayed.
4-4. Select Print nozzle check pattern and then press the OK button. The pattern print confirmation screen is displayed.
4-5. Select Yes and then press the OK button.
The nozzle check pattern is printed and the pattern confirmation screens are displayed alternately.
If they not correct, perform a few cleanings. Please perform the following steps to perform a Cleaning:
1. Press the MENU button.
2. Press the Setup button.
3. Select Maintenance then press the OK button.
4. Select Cleaning and press OK.
5. Press OK to select Yes.
The cleaning will be performed. After 2 or 3 cleanings, print another test page.
Does the test page print correctly?

Here is what I did
1. Took ink carts out and put them back in in the order you provided
2. Printed a nozzle check and the CYAN did not print
3. I did a basic cleaning
4. Printed nozzle check and it showed some CYAN
5. Did 2 more cleanings
6. Printed 2 more nozzle checks and it looked good
QUESTION:
Is my issue fixed and how often should I do a cleaning?
I am using 3rd party ink on a brand new printer, this SHOULD NOT cause a problem right out of the gate, correct?
We use Canon OEM ink as well as 3rd party. When we clean heads and print black it is sometime 3rd party but we also use Canon for pictures and cards.

Hello again joegeek,
It appears the printing of the cyan ink issue has been resolved. If you are showing cyan on the Nozzle test pattern the unit should allow you to print with the ink. You should only need to perform a print head cleaning when you are experiencing print quality issues.
Regarding your question about 3rd party ink, Canon USA does not recommend the use of inks manufactured by third parties in Canon printers. Canon genuine inks are formulated specifically for use in our ultra-precise print head. Our print head and inks work together as a precisely engineered system to support optimum image quality, print speed and reliability in higher resolution text and color printing applications. Canon supplies and accessories can be purchased online at http://shop.usa.canon.com/, or by calling 1-800-385-2155 to speak to a Canon Direct Representative.
Should you decide to use inks manufactured by third parties in your Canon printer, and such inks cause damage to your product, this damage will not be covered under the product's limited warranty. Any repairs required as a result of such damage must be made at your expense.

Hi Mutantmike,
The 2500 error is an indication that the PIXMA MX922 is unable to perform an automatic printhead alignment.
To resolve this, please print the nozzle check pattern to determine if the PIXMA MX922 is working correctly. To do this, please follow these steps:
1. Make sure that the machine is turned on
Does the test page print?
If so, the automatic alignment may fail for the following reasons:
1. The paper of size other than A4 or Letter is loaded in the cassette (lower).
2. The paper output slot is exposed to strong light.
The alignment can be performed manually instead of automatically. To perform an alignment, please follow these steps:
1. Make sure that your PIXMA MX922 is turned on.
2. Make sure that three or more sheets of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper are loaded in the cassette (lower).
3. Open the paper output tray by holding both sides of the paper output tray, gently open it.
4. Extend the paper output support.
5. Press the MENU button on your PIXMA MX922.
6. Select Setup and press OK.
7. Select Maintenance and press OK.
8. Select Manual head alignment and press OK.
9. Select Yes and press OK. The alignment page will print.
10. When the message "Did the patterns print correctly?" appears, confirm that the pattern is printed correctly, select Yes, then press the OK button.
11. Look at the first pattern and adjust the print head position. Check the printed patterns, and use the left or right button to input the number of the pattern in column A that has the least noticeable vertical streaks. If it is difficult to pick the best pattern, pick the setting that produces the least noticeable vertical streaks.
12. Repeat the same procedure until you finish inputting the pattern number for columns B to H, then press the OK button. For columns G and H, pick the setting that produces the least noticeable horizontal streaks at the position indicated by an arrow.
13. Confirm the message, then press the OK button. The second pattern will print.
14. Look at the second pattern and adjust the print head position. Check the printed patterns, and use the left or right button to input the number of the pattern in column I that has the least noticeable vertical streaks.
15. Repeat the same procedure until you finish inputting the pattern number for columns J to P, then press the OK button.
16. Confirm the message, then press the OK button. The third pattern will print.
17. Look at the third pattern and adjust the print head position. Check the printed patterns, and use the left or right button to input the number of the pattern in column a that has the least noticeable horizontal stripes.
18. Repeat the same procedure until you finish inputting the pattern number for columns b to h, then press the OK button. The manual adjustment of the print head position is complete.
19. When the completion message appears, press the OK button.
