I have a MX922 that prints normally on paper, and in all other colors, but when I print black items such as text on a DVD, the text is ghosted and blurry, as though the printhead was misaligned. However, printing on paper does not cause this issue. I have changed print cartridges, cleaned the timing belt, upgraded the firmware, performed the print alignment test multiple times, and tried different discs with different surface textures - but nothing works. The print alignment test always comes out perfectly on paper. And, as I mentioned above, its only for items that print with black - or contain black. For example, text in colors that do not need black added to them print as crisp and sharp as they do on paper. I've performed every level of cleaning on the heads, but with no effect. I'm assuming it's a defect in the black print head - but I'm open to any suggestion as to how to resolve. Thanks!

I have the exact same problem, except it is not limited to printing on disks.. And I, too, have perofmred all of the troubleshooting steps.
Edit: I find it suspicious that this problem, for me at least, exhibited itself 13 months after purchase!!! Planned obsolescence? Make the product fail just-out-of-warranty so the consumer has to buy a new one???

This is a new problem for me. Printing black text on discs has worked perfectly for years. I read this thread and tried everything recommended but nothing fixes the problem. I tested the same source file on someone else's MX-922 who claims he never used the disc writing feature before. We saw the exact same blurry results.
I was told by a Canon rep that replacing the MX-922 is no longer an option.
Looking at new printers sold by different manufactures, I came to the conclusion the new printers seem like cheap plastic toys in comparison and very few have the printing on discs feature.

I have had 4 of these, 1 new when it came out and 3 used since then. I am also an ex HP repair specialist, so I have that going for me. This is an alignment issue that is "unresolvable". And only pertains to the DVD printing. I used mine 75% of the time for that. I have put hundreds of discs through the machines. Not the heads for sure. I bit the bullet and bought the ip8720 new this year. I would never buy used again.

My solution was to purchase a new Canon TS9520 printer.

Thas a good choice, I opted for the non multi function as my MX922 is still good for anything else other than disc printing. I went with the ip8720 because it has a straight-through paper path. its good for printing on really heavy stock. I made sport cards with my 922 believe it or not, but I tore one of the 3 machines up (actually died an early death) because of doing so. So I wanted something I could put heavy stuff through (besides the dvd printing), and it is a better quality photo printer as opposed to the 922. I tried 2 different models, the 9520 and the 702, both had a cheap feel, and of course I used amazon, so I knew that if I was not happy I could get a complete refund. Actually if the 9520 had some ink overspray on a disc I made, I might have kept it. But knowing I still have working functions on my 922 the 8720 was the perfect compliment. Thanks for you reply !!!

Plus I wanted another printer that used the same 250 cartridges as the 922, which really narrowed the field down. Btw I have been buying 3rd party ink from auction for 5 years without a hitch.
