MX492 - need help w/ scan. Quit scanning. Uninstalled, reinstalled, still no luck. Any suggestions?

I have had this printer for a couple of years without any problems. About two weeks ago, it stopped scanning with a message that the printer was not connected to the computer. I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times with a direct software download from the Canon site. It now prints and copies, but still won't scan. Any ideas from anyone? I really need the scan function.
