MX490 can no longer scan with windows 10 builtin scan program

A week ago, we could scan using the win 10 program, now it says connect a scanner.

Tried uninstalling and reinstal, all win 10 can do now is install this as a fax and printer, not as a scanner.

I downloaded the 388mb canon software suite, and it can scan ok using the printer.

We have the printer connected wirelessly.

How can I force windows 10 to install this device as a scanner?

Going to settings install, brings up the device, mx490 series (then a long number sequence) for the name, listing as a fax, scanner, printer. But following thru with the adding device, all that appears is a printer wps, xps, fax machine, no scanner.canon2.PNG

Hi sdowney717,

To scan with your PIXMA MX490, please use the IJ Scan Utility.  To scan with the IJ Scan Utility, please follow these steps:

 1.  Click on the Windows Start button in the lower left hand corner.

 2.  Click on the Canon Utilities folder and then the IJ Scan Utility to open that program.

 3.  Place your item face down on the scan glass or in the automatic document feeder of your PIXMA MX490.

 4.  Click the PHOTO or DOCUMENT button on the IJ Scan Utility.

Scanning will begin.
