MGM2522 Printer Has Orange and Green Lights Interchangeably 2x Times

I have recently set-up the printer after receiving it as a gift and am finding that I am unable to print anything. When I do try to print, I get error code 5100. While I've had the printer on the orange and green lights are blinking interchangeably twice before pausing and then repeating the same process.

To resolve the 5100 error your PIXMA MG2522 is experiencing, please follow the steps on this page:

If the 5100 error persists, the next step would be to clean the encoder.  To do this, please follow the steps provided here:

Cleaning the Encoder Film - MG2420 / MG2520

If the error persists, please contact one of Canon's Technical Support Representatives via phone or chat. To contact a Technical Support Representative, please use the link below to log into your My Canon account:

https://mycanon.usa.canon.com

Once logged in, click on your PIXMA MG2522 and then click on the Product Support button. When that page loads, click on either the Phone Support button or the Chat Support button to access support. A Technical Support Representative can determine the cause of the issue and resolve it or provide you with your available service options.
