Printing test page shows black grid: PGBK section of test is perfect, however printing documents won't use PGBK
I know this because printing black text using a black and white color profile printed in cyan, other color inks were nearly gone. Refreshed yellow tank, then it printed in green. Refreshed all other tanks and replaced PGBK. Now it's soft grey.
How do I get the printer to use PGBK? Shouldn't that be the default for black and white docs?

LaconicDragon,
The MG8120 is not compatible with the Mojave operating system. Since there are no drivers, this is why the ink is not being applied correctly.
Since the MG8120 is not compatible with the Mojave operating system, you can try installing the High Sierra drivers as a work around.
Please note that the software for the High Sierra operating system may or may not function in the newer Mojave environment. If it does work, there may be some limitations which are unknown to Canon. If the older software does not work, there is little more that you can do.
Please click HERE to go directly to the download site for your MG8120. Once you are on the website, please change the operating system from Mojave to Sierra.

LaconicDragon,
Since the grid prints that rules out any hardware issues on the printer and we will need to check the printer driver and software.
Please let us know what version of Windows or Macintosh is installed on your computer?

The most recent driver for MG8100 is for Mac OS 10.12 Sierra, not High Sierra, but installing that driver seems to have solved my issue.
Thanks Arthur
