This is a neighbor's machine.
Printing from the computer - color or monochrome - is fine.
However, it won't COPY (or scan). A document can be placed on the platen, and COPY selected. The scan head doesn't move, but paper is processed and appears in the output tray.
All the ordinary things have been done, more than once.

Hi Notaguru.
If the scanning head isn't moving when you try to make a copy, the printer will need to be replaced. If you're located in the U.S., create or log into a Canon Account and register your printer HERE for your personalized support options.
If you're located outside of the U.S., you may find your local branch of Canon using the map on the Canon Global website: http://global.canon/en/support/
